Quick reference
Alpha-Gal safe & avoid.
A starting point for everyday choices — at the grocery store, the pharmacy, and the dinner table. Reactions vary from person to person, so pair this with label-reading and your own sensitivity level.

The two lists
What goes in the cart, and what stays on the shelf
Alpha-gal is a sugar found in mammalian meat and many animal-derived ingredients. Poultry, fish, and plants carry none of it.
Generally safe
Contain no alpha-gal and are generally well tolerated.
Generally avoid
Mammalian meats and animal-derived ingredients that carry alpha-gal.

It depends on you
Some foods sit in the middle
Tolerance for these varies with your sensitivity level. Test carefully and track how you feel.
- Dairy
Milk, cheese, butter. Many people tolerate it; those at higher sensitivity (Level 3+) may react.
- Carrageenan
A seaweed-derived additive. Most do fine; a minority report sensitivity.
- Magnesium stearate
Common pill filler. In the US it is usually plant-derived and tolerated.
Know your level
AGS affects people differently
Your sensitivity level shapes what you need to avoid. The two lists above are a baseline — your level tells you how far past it to look.
Avoid beef, pork, lamb, and other mammalian meat. About 40% of people.
Also react to gelatin and similar mammalian-derived ingredients. About 30%.
Also react to dairy products. About 20%.
React to even trace amounts - sometimes called super reactors. About 10%.
